Vermont Clock Company

Vermont Clock Company was formed by the McGuire Family in a small town in Vermont. Isle La Motte, an island in Lake Champlain, was home to Vermont Clock Company. Jack and Linda, husband and wife and their daughter Meghan and son Michael, started the business with one Shaker Clock.

Named, Watervliet Shaker Clock, it was modeled after a Circa 1820 Tall Clock, attributed to the Watervliet Shaker Community. With clean lines and unadorned details, it was classic Shaker. A solid brass Hermle, weight driven clock movement was ideal for the clock, bare-bones movement with high quality. Meghan painted the Dial and the clock looked like a work of art. After designing the first clock and building a few, for stores they wholesaled to, the clock was noticed by a large, specialty Mail Order Catalog. Family members thought they would sell one or two clocks, “well the first order was for 12 clocks! The Simple, Shaker tall Clock was a hit, and Vermont Clock Company was starting to grow.

The McGuire Family, added several more Grandfather Clocks, then within a year they were selling eight different clocks. They wholesaled the clock to Numerous Stores, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which sold the smaller version of the Shaker Tall Clock, “The Dwarf Clock”.

Jack, in 2012 was diagnosed with Cancer and courageously fought the disease for eight years and passed away in 2020 at 75 years old. Linda still helps Michael, Meghan has moved onto new adventures.

Today, the VCC has one maker, Michael. Michael is grateful for the knowledge, Jack and Linda, passed down, fundamental skills of understanding proportion, style and hand rubbed finish.
